The Bell farmhouse was originally built in the early 1800′s in Robertson County, Tennessee close to the Kentucky state line and the Red River. The house is now gone, but thanks to the Tennessee Historical Commission, there is a marker along U.S. Highway 41 that marks the Bell property line. There is also a monument placed in the memory of the Bell family on the former site of the home. The house was burned to the ground in years ago by frightened neighbors, but the ghostly activity continues to this day.

The site is said to be haunted by at least one spirit, but could have as many as four including members of the Bell family. The most prominent spirit, famously known as The Bell Witch is believed to be the spirit of Kate Batts. John Bell fell in love with Kate Batts in North Carolina and proposed to her, but the marriage never happened. In the late 1770′s, Kate Batts was found dead next to a well near her home. Her death was never solved and John Bell quickly moved on, marrying Lucy soon after Kate’s funeral. The newlyweds moved to Tennessee to begin their lives together.

The haunting began in 1817 when John Bell spotted a large dog-like creature in his cornfield. He fired his gun to chase it away, but it just vanished. Soon thereafter, the family was tormented by rapping and scratching on the walls of their home as if trying to get in. It did eventually find it’s way in and it began gnawing on bedposts, kicking the ceiling, knocking over furniture, and dragging invisible chains across the floor. The poltergeist activity escalated to violence including slapping people in the face, pulling hair, throwing rocks and sticks at the children as they headed to school and finally pronounced one day that it was “the witch” and would torment John Bell forever. John Bell suffered many beatings and the witch’s voice could be heard all hours of the day and night screaming, quoting Scripture and shouting murderous threats at John.

Word of the Bell family’s torment spread and people from all over came to visit the home. Mr. Bell brought in the family minister to exorcise the house, but nothing changed and the tormenting continued. Eventually, no one would set foot inside the house. The site was even visited by President Andrew Jackson, who fled after furniture and dishes were hurled at him.

The torment continued for three years until December 19, 1820 when John was found in a stupor from which he would never recover. He died the next day. The witch mysteriously disappeared about a month after John’s death, but vowed to return in seven years. It did indeed return seven years later, but it’s feeble attempts at torment didn’t have the desired effect, and it soon disappeared again.

Visitors to the site today claim to see creepy floating lights and hear screaming and the sound of rattling chains. The portion of Highway 41 near the property is said to be haunted by a young female ghost who suddenly appears on the highway, panicking drivers as she passes right through their car. The Bell Witch Cave, which overlooks the Red River on a cliff on the Bell property is said to give off a strange aura and may be the home of the spirit of Kate herself.

This famous house is located at 112 Ocean Avenue in the city of Amityville on Long Island, New York. Although the house is easy to find, keep in mind it is a private residence and the owners’ privacy should always be respected. In other words, no trespassing.

On the morning of November 13th, 1974, Ronald DeFeo, Jr. got out of bed, picked up a gun, and methodically executed his parents, his two brothers, and his two sisters. He eventually confessed to murdering his family, but argued that his family home was inhabited by demon spirits who urged him to kill.

The house is reportedly haunted by somewhere between six and ten ghostly presences. Five of those spirits are said to be those of the murdered DeFeo family members. These spirits have been heard walking through the house, they have caused bizarre odors, committed poltergeist activity and basically create an uneasy aura throughout the residence. In additon to the deceased family members, residents have reported a menacing hooded figure and something described as a “demon”.

As portrayed in the best-selling book The Amityville Horror in 1978, the spirits are said to be without a doubt evil and prone to attacking, possessing, and terrorizing humans. . The family who moved in after the murders almost immediately began expriencing strange phenomena. The hauntings began with a mysterious foul odor that was soon after followed by the arrival of a swarm of flies and a disgusting black ooze in the bathroom. Over the next few week, the haunting intensified with the sounds of disembodied footsteps and horns of a marching band being heard throughout the house. The man of the house, George Lutz, also awoke several times to the sight of his wife floating above their bed. Both the front door and the heavy garage door were nearly torn from their hinges on separate occasions.

Psychics have investigated the house an claim the house was built on a Native American burial ground and the spirits were angry over some past events which caused rage to build within the house. Whatever happened there in the past, recent owners of the house have reported no paranormal occurances.

Located in St. Louis, Missouri, the mansion was owned by the Lemp family – a family beseeched by tragedy. Four of the members of this beer-brewing dynasty committed suicide; three of them actually ended thier lives inside the mansion.doors opening, shutting, locking, and unlocking on their own; and candles lighting on their own.

Some of the reports of paranormal activity inside Lemp Mansion include apparitions, cold spots, lights that turn on-and-off, disembodied voices, poltergeist like activity such as drinks flying through the air and crashing on the floor, the piano in the bar playing by itself;

Visitors to the mansion report feeling as if they are being watched and sensing an atmosphere of sadness. Seances have been held in the mansion and the outcome of these seances seems to be that most of the paranormal activity is related to the ghost of Charles Lemp.

Even so, probably the most common apparition is a woman dressed in lavender known as “The Lavender Lady.” The apparition is believed to be Lillian Lemp, the wife of William Lemp, Jr. Lillian was known for wearing lavender and is always seen in a lavender gown.

Today, the mansion is a restaurant and inn. The mansion attracts ghost hunters from everywhere, and offers weekly ghost tours as well as Murder Mystery Theaters.

Find out more about the Lemp Mansion by visiting the official site here.

Steven LaChance was forever transformed by the paranormal attacks that drove him and his family from their home in Union, Missouri. When another family falls victim to the same dark entity, Steven returns to the dreaded house to offer aid and find healing. Paranormal investigators, psychics, and priests are consulted, but no relief is found. The demon’s presence – screams, growls, putrid odours, invisible shoves, bites, and other physical violations – only grow worse. Steven chronicles how this supernatural predator infects those around it. But the one who suffers most is the current homeowner, Helen. When the entity takes possession and urges Helen toward murder and madness, Steven must engage in a hair-raising battle for her soul.”The Uninvited” is a true and terrifying tale of extreme haunting, demon possession, and an epic struggle between good and evil.
User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Excellent
I collect books in this genre. This book was well written and scary. I don’t scare easily if really ever. But the images prtrayed in this book were haunting in a very creepy way.

Great job. I am sorry for the authors obvious distress and at times desperate attempt at getting help. However it makes a great read for the rest of us.

If you are just starting out in this genre or a well read in this genre…. this is the one to go with.

Happy Halloween.

5 Stars A Page Turner
This book was excellent and is on my list of favorite ghost stories. If you love a good true ghost story don’t miss this one.

5 Stars A Book You Will NOT be Able to Put Down!!
A great book if you’re into reading about actual paranormal events.

It is well written and VERY interesting. These type of books (good ones) are hard to come by.

3 Stars I feel a little skeptical of a few things
First of all, as someone interested in the paranormal for most of my life, I must say that this is a frightening story indeed. However a few things bothered me. This first thing may be small, but I am a stickler for consistency. The eccentric landlord was an old woman in the author’s account of his experience when he posted it online. In the book, the landlord is an eccentric old man. Is it a man or a woman?

I looked up this home in some of my most haunted places in America books but none of them contain even a mention of this house. I googled The Screaming House in Union, Missouri among other variations, and the only information that came up was connected to the author and his book or show. DOesn’t anyone else know about this? Former tenants who left so fast that their personal belongings had been left there? How about some impartial witnesses outside the author’s circle of family & friends? Amazingly, there is absolutely no local lure, like the people that walked on the other side of the road from the house. Did any neighbors hear the loud banging and the screams? Did any neighbors see or hear the hooded dark creatire or the wolf creature? Were the police ever called in to witness any of these phenomena?

I wish the author could have included some photos. Especially when he went back to help the other tenant and put his own fear aside to help her. He spent countless more hours in the house after he moved out and even worked with paranormal researchers – but he did not offer any photos and as far as I can see, did not try to set up a video camera to capture any of these strange creatures.

I applaud the author for getting his kids out of there as soon as he did. He seems like a very good father, and his vulnerability and honesty made him a likeable storyteller. I do believe there was something there, but demonic hauntings need to be dealt with differently than your benign can’t-seem-to-cross-to-the-other-side spirits. I thought it was exceedingly dangerous for the author to go back to the house to help the next tenant, even if his intentions were good. Demons like this can attach themselves and go right with you.

I also do not think it was entirely responsible of the author to imply that a person who does not go to church or does not believe in Christianity is more susceptible to be the victim of a demonic haunting. Based on my understanding, it is more a circumstantial event, usually based on something that happened on the property itself in the past as I thought he was getting into as he dug into the history of the location a bit.

The one thing that made me most skeptical however was HOW COULD THE NEW TENANT POSSIBLY STAY AS LONG AS SHE DID?? She too had kids to be responsible for. The brutality of the events – biting, sexual abuse, and extreme dangerous situations, causing eventual possession (and/or mental illness, however you interpret what happened to Helen), would have driven anyone out in days, or weeks, like the author and his family. To stay and endure that sort of haunting for years, and have it destroy your entire family right before your very eyes, is beyond crazy. NO matter how much they “couldn’t afford” to move, in my opinion, that family couldn’t afford NOT to.

So it was a very intriguing and scary book – but more collaboration with impartial witnesses, as well as possibly some photos or video, would bolster the credibility factor a lot. Three stars.

5 Stars Awesome and Unbelievable!
This is an truly awesome book, I couldn’t put it down once I started reading. Although I saw the Fear House episode of A Haunting the book provides so much more about what actually happened in that house. I would recommend this book to any paranormal fan (and non-believers too!).

Serving as a home, an inn and a hotel for almost three hundred years, this house has taken in much of the town of Barnstable‘s history including its people–some for eternity! Whether or not you believe in ghosts, the documentation and testimonies surrounding the history of this house raise the question: Do spiritual entities really exist? This story comes to life in 1713 and takes you right up to the present day. It covers the history and genealogy of many of the ancient families of the Cape Cod area, including Paine, Howes, Davis, Savage, and Shaw, and documents the owners of the Barnstable house over the years. Several stories of ghostly encounters are recorded here, including firsthand and newspaper accounts. A spooky Halloween treat! 2003, 5? x 8?, paper, index, 138 pp.
